sunrise, sunset

what does the sun know of sunrise
in its motionless climb from bed

what does it know of
the call of hungry pets
the effect of caffeine
the smell of bacon frying

what does the sun know of desire
of filling that empty longing

what does it know of godhood
silently breathing
the worship of lizards basking
of flowers opening and skin exulting

what does the sun know of poetry
an ode a sonnet a haiku

what does it know of life
oblivious or omniscient
the mad rush to work
the relief of returning home

what does the sun know of sleep
every second another set, another rise

what does it know of sunset
the vanishing light
moving so quickly, immobile
in the inevitable pull back to bed
