Hope betrays

in desperate times

hope is what we cling to when

we have lost all faith

  1. Does this mean that clinging to hope as a habitual stance creates a mental attitude of desperation? Just a thought. Very nice poem. I like to have my thoughts provoked. Thanks.

    • Thanks, Alice! I think it works both ways. When you’ve given up on faith, it’s easy to fall back on hope. And your earlier takes on hope have made me ponder what a nasty trickster hope can be. Hope is giving up your power to make something happen and quickly leads to desperation.
